Family Photoshoot: K Family

December is a busy season for family photoshoots. You get a mix of Fall shoots and holiday shoots- it’s holiday card season, engagement season and an overall general busy photos season.

So, I shouldn’t have been surprised when I got to this park and saw 5+ photoshoots happening at the same time. Families were rotating in and out, flannel shirts at every turn and unofficial wait lines for key areas of the park. I even saw a graduation shoot happening.

It was my first time at this park in Orange County and the families to space ratio felt strange- especially since we’re all trying to social distance. With that said- that’s why scouting is always key. Getting there early and finding relatively isolated spots with great lighting becomes even more important for shoots like this. Plus, one absolute positive I’ve learned this past year about popular photo spots- you know you’re in the right place if other photographers also love the area.

A few things I loved about this shoot:

  1. This family. Super photogenic + super sweet- then again every family I’ve worked with this season has been a blast.

  2. The lighting

  3. The fall foliage

  4. The location- aside from the need to assert yourself from time to time to get a good spot, this location ended up being incredibly beautiful.

A few things to keep in mind for future shoots in December:

  1. Definitely continue to get there early to scout- weekends get busy with park shoots & the added pressure of social distancing means a little more consideration.

  2. Golden hour is definitely busiest.

This was one of my last family photoshoots of the year, so I’m excited I’ve been able to wrap up with such a photogenic family!
